Proxmox is better at Vms. Truenas (Scale in in VM) is a superb NAS. I have TRUENAS Scale VM in Proxmox. I pass through the HBA controller ( and therefore the attached drives) to TrueNAS. It works great. Then, on the same Proxmox server I run a Plex Server and NextCloud server on Ubuntu. Those both access the storage on the NAS.
