The WASR-10/63 is assembled from older military MD63 rifle kits and converted to a semi auto rifle for export. The WASR-10 was created as a semi auto rifle from new parts for export only. It was never a military rifle. Same Cugir factory, same assembly line. One is a refurbished rifle, the other is new.

In for the answer. If i remember correctly the 10/63's were made out of surplus parts, whereas the 10's are new production parts. I bought a WASR10 about 8 or 9 years ago. It was about $150 cheaper than the SAR1. You used to be able to get the SAR 1,2 and 3 at any gun store.
